I often write about the HOW of Asset Protection, focusing on the details of the planning, or what tools work best for particular assets. As I look back on almost 20 years of helping clients, I want to take a moment to share with you WHY I personally choose to do this work.
You may have heard the running joke that attorneys, who have left the profession, often use.
“So John what do you do?”
“Well Steve, I’m a recovering attorney.”
You can imagine why this is. The legal profession is often one of the most stressful and draining jobs anyone can do. If you think about it, attorneys are basically paid to take on the stress and problems of their clients. And they are paid even more when they are able to create a significantly greater level of stress for someone else.
I believe there are no neutral thoughts or actions in this life. We are either supporting Love, or we are supporting Fear.
Think about this for yourself for a moment. Every thought you have, and every action you take ultimately either connects you with your fellow humans in what can only be seen as Love, or it divides you, due to a perception of Fear.
I choose Love. What I think when I wake up in the morning, what I speak about with my clients throughout my day, and what I share with my family at night, is guided by my choice to connect and support in Love.
How does being an Asset Protection attorney support me in this?
If you are one of my clients, then you know that my goal is to reduce your FEAR. We do this together by you sharing your concerns and fears, and by me using my experience and the legal tools available to do two things:
- Identify where your fear of lawsuits, or of losing your assets, is valid, and where it is made up. You would be surprised how powerful just this conversation is. It’s like going to the doctor with an intense fear that you have Cancer, only to be told you have a cold.
- Plan where you can take concrete steps to protect your assets from your valid fears, and get it done!
These two steps work hand in hand. By identifying where your fears are real and where they are imaginary, you can reduce your immediate stress level, giving you space to take the second step of planning. By planning, you create the actual protection for your assets, which leads to your peace of mind.
Imagine spending 20 years of your life, having literally thousands of conversations, all with the single goal of supporting you and your clients to be more loving and less fearful.
That is my job, and that is why I still choose to wake up and do it with joy every day!
Thank you Doug, I do sleep better since signing up with you. Geoff Dubosque is my contact and I am comfortable with his guidance. Be sure to let me know when you have rescheduled the seminar.
